“Awesome!” was just one word King’s Daughters Medical Center (KDMC) in Ashland, KY used to describe their new Philips iCT scanner. “The iCT is a different level of technology” says Todd Kranpitz, Director of Imaging Services. A Thompson Reuters Top 100 Hospitals award winner from ’04 -’08, KDMC is one of the first hospitals to clinically functionalize the new Philips 256-slice scanner.

King's Daughters Medical Center is a 465 bed community hospital with an affixed Heart and Vascular center. In addition, the site is complimented with a free standing State of the Art Imaging Center as well as multiple Ambulatory Care Center. KDMC has been one of FORTUNE’S 100 Best Companies to work for in 2008 & 2009 and is #5 on Modern Healthcares 100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare in 2008. These accomplishments are accentuated by the fact that the site is home to approximately 4,000 team members.

Jeff Caudill RT(R) (CT), CT Supervisor, presides over a seven room department with 22 CT Technologists, six RN’s and 14 Radiologists. “I am very pleased’, said Jeff seeing the speed of the sharp images being displayed. “We do a wide variety of scans ranging from a simple Head CT to Cardiac CTA. …the new Philips iCT has enabled us to do CT Colonography as well as Step and Shoot Cardiac CTA which provides faster scans and a decreased radiation dose for all age groups”.

Jeff is not the only one enjoying the department’s new toy, two technologists [Linda and JD] both gave the system 12 out of 10. “Linda and JD used Step and Shoot for the first time scanning several cardiac’s and PE studies with great results.” When asked to rate his technologist’s skill and confidence level with the system, Jeff replied “On a scale of 1-10, they are at a 10. This happened in a very short period of time.” He continued on to explain, “This was the easiest transition with a scanner I have ever done in the 21 years I have been doing CT. It was simple and direct. I appreciate all of the help that Philips provided. It was 5 Star service, training, and equipment for this install. Thank you.”

The very positive results of this Handover were due to many factors: the training done by Caroline Burke (Philips Education Specialist), support from Eric Bowen (Philips Account Manager), the eagerness of the technologists to learn, Manny (Butch) Garcia and Tim Spears (Philips Field Service) being available to fix anything that came their way and Todd Kranpitz’s two year journey in preparing for this day.
